Development of decomposition-based model using Copula-GARCH approach to simulate instantaneous peak discharge

Abstract Estimation of instantaneous peak discharge is important in the design hydraulic structures and reservoir management. In this study, a new approach called CEEMD-Copula-GARCH presented for simulating Qale Shahrokh basin, upstream Zayanderood Dam, Iran. developed method, Complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) algorithm was used to analyze observed values generate intrinsic function residual series. For purpose, were simulated based on vine copula its tree sequence (C-vine, D-vine, R-vine their independent Gaussian modes), series CEEMD by GARCH model. The results (m 3 /s) using study area showed that amount simulation error RMSE statistic compared CEEMD-Copula model without has improved about 20 70%, respectively. model’s efficiency also estimated Nash–Sutcliffe proposed 0.99, certainty confirmed violin plot.
